Rivers Troupe Perform At NAFEST 2010

The Rivers State Council for Arts and Culture says the State Troupe is set to make the State proud at this year’s National Festival for Arts and Culture  which opened last Saturday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The Director, Rivers State Council for Arts and Culture, Chief Deede Baede gave the assurance in a chat with newsmen in Port Harcourt.

Chief Baede said that the Rivers Troupe which had intensified its rehearsals and preparations, is expected to put up impressive outing at the festival.

He noted that the competition titled: “Cultural Industries and Economic Empowerment,” is targeted at showcasing different cultural displays such wrestling, food fare competition, dance/music adding that Rivers children would complete with their counterparts from the 36 states in Solo Music.

The Rivers State Arts and Culture boss explained that a kind of wrestling known as “Kwukwa” would also be on display at the one week fiesta expected to also host non-competitive events.

In the food fare, he explained that competitors are expected to demonstrate traditional competence in the preparation of their native soup adding that the idea is to allow competitors the opportunity to show-case their cultural heritage.

On funding and logistics, he said the State Government had made positive move to ensure a successful participation, adding that the council had also concluded plans on documentary and photo gallery of the event.

The Director called on Rivers people and multinationals operating in the state to always patronize the council in their events, that accommodate entertainment.
