Registration For International Mountain Race Begins

Registration for the 6th Obudu International Mountain Race and the second African Mountain Running Champions for both men and women has commenced.

This was made known recently by the Media Officer of the organizers of the race, Patrick Ugbe, in Port Harcourt.

According to him, this year’s race would witnessed unprecedented number of athletes who meant to come down to Nigeria to participate in the race.

“This is very pleasing to us because of the many negative reports in the international media about it, rather we have had more Europeans, Asians and South Americans making enquiries about the race than ever.”

Ugbe said that the President of the World Mountain Race Association, Bruno Gozzelino has revealed that the Obudu Ranch Resort,  venue for the annual race, can conviently host the world championships.

He however, described the Governor of Cross Rivers State, Senator liyel Imoke as the driving force behind the good image.

Meanwhile, the likes of World Champion Andrea Mayr of Austria is among the list of top class runners that have indicated their interest to participate in the forthcoming event.

Mayr has remained unbeaten World Mountain Race Association Grand Prix Series and won the World tile last month.

The top prize for men and women race winners is 50,000 dollars respectively.
