Ohakims Adviser Urges Youth To Shun Violence
Nigerian youths should engage in issue-based campaigns for the 2011 general polls, Prof. Chuks Ogbonna, an aide to Governor Ikedi Ohakim of Imo, has said in Owerri.
Ogbonna, who is the governor’s Special Adviser on AGriculture and food Security, made the statement as the guest lecturer at a conference on “New face of Imo”.
He urged the youth to shun thuggery and violence before and during the elections, saying they should rather educate the masses on the achievements of the governor.
“As vanguards, you should be in the forefront of the campaign for the governor’s second term bid by educating the people on his achievements, which are verifiable.
“The campaign for his re-election should be an intellectual fight; no violence, no killing, no maiming, no barbarism.”
Ogbonna also urged them to hinge the campaign philosophy on “new ways of doing things because the old ways have failed us.
“The New Face of Imo has good governance, honesty, transparency and accountability as its cornerstone”, he said.
He added that the governor’s 14-point agenda for the transformation of the state had recorded a huge success.
In her remark, the Chairperson of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) Mrs Ruby Emele, urged the youth to mobilise support for Ohakim’s second term.
