A 15-man Nigerian contingent of 10 players and five officials left Lagos on Wednesday for Accra to take part in the Africa Scrabble  Championship.

James Ekins, Secretary of the Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF), told the Tidesports source that the team, winners of the tournament two years ago in Kenya, would successfully defend the title.

Ekins said the team had a four-month long training at the Games Village, preparing for the competition.

He said the players and their officials were in high spirit and exuding confidence.

“I am sure they will excel.”

The NSF Secretary said the 10-man squad was made up of five male and five female players.

He said the players were expected back home on October 25.
