Nigerians Abroad Mobilise For Voters’ Registration
As the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) concludes arrangement for the voters registration exercise, Nigerians in diaspora have concluded plans to massively participate in the exercise.
The President of the United Kingdom-based Vision Goodluck Nigeria 2011: Global Intellect Campaign, Mrs. Aselle Abigo Tshuinza disclosed this in an exclusive interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt.
Mrs. Tshuinza said that since Nigerians in diaspora could not vote the organisation had planned to charter flights for Nigerians abroad to participate in the voters registration exercise.
She also said that the global intellect campaign has as its aim, sensitising Nigerian professionals abroad to participate actively in the electoral process.
“Since we cannot vote abroad, we want to now charter jets for everyone to come here register and vote.
“The difficulty we are having is that alot of intellects are not voting and they are all over the world, because they just feel that Nigeria elections are not working, it will never be free and fair.
“What we are trying to do is convince people that for you to make it free and fair you have to get involve” she said.
She stressed that time had come for Nigerians both at home and abroad to be involved in the process of building the nation, stressing that criticism will never change Nigeria.
Mrs. Abigo expressed optimism that if the current reforms in the nation were carried to logical conclusion, Nigeria would withness free and fair elections.
She used the occasion to condemn the recent bomb blast in Abuja which killed about twelve persons and called on the security agencies to bring the perpetrators to book.
