NGO Donates N3m Books To Rivers Schools
A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) has donated books worth N3 million to nine schools in Rivers State.
Speaking at the official handing over of the books to benefiting schools in Port, Harcourt the Country’s Director of the NGO-Adventist Development Relief Agency (ADRA), Mr. John Nwangbrogwu, said the gesture was part of the organization’s way of assisting to improve education in the society.
Mr. Nwangbrogwu, stated that the books donated cover all subjects taught in both primary and secondary schools.
Apart from donation of books, he said the organization also provided good water in rural areas and urged the benefiting schools to ultilize the materials properly for the development of the students and society at large.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Meze Enyinda, called for effective use of the books and cautioned against selling the books to the public.
He also commended the organization for contributing to the development of education in the state and blamed the falling standard of education in the country on lack of reading materials.
He advised parents and teachers in the state to instill reading culture in their children, arguing that the move would go a long way in restoring effective educational system in the country.
Earlier, in an address of welcome, the State Coordinator of ADRA, Mr. Sammy Kpanu, explained that his organization was committed to improving the lives of the people through qualitative education.
Responding on behalf of the benefiting schools, the Principal of Community Commercial Secondary School, Botem-Tai, Mr. Nelson Kpenu thanked the organization for its kind gesture and promised judicious use of the books. He also urged other NGOs in the state to emulate the good gesture of ADRA in the efforts to develop education in the society.
The schools that benefited from the books donation include Government Girls Secondary School, Rumuokwuta, Adventist Comprehensive High School, Elele Commercial Secondary School, Botem-Tai and Adventist Nursery School, Alesa Aleme.
