Govt Approves Xmas Bonus For Enugu Workers
The Enugu State Government has approved the award of Christmas bonus to workers in the State Civil Service for their Christmas celebration this year.
The State Governor, Mr. Sullivan Chime, made the bonus award public while addressing workers in the State during a cultural competition held as part of this year’s Civil Service Week celebration.
Governor Chime, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government,(SSG) Mr. Martin Ilo, said that the gesture was to appreciate the workers for their hard work and to encourage them to put in their best in the discharge of their duties.
The Governor noted that most of the successes and achievements made by his administration since assumption of office were made possible by the contribution of workers and commended the State Head of Service for his efforts in capacity building.
He restated that the administration would continue to give priority attention to the interest and welfare of workers and appealed to them to always reciprocate government’s gesture by giving honest service.
The Governor noted with satisfaction the excellent cultural displays by workers, adding that he was happy to see the workers in a very cheerful mood and vibrancy.
Also in his address, the Head of Service, Mr. Sylvanus Onoyima thanked the workers for making this year’s Civil Service Week a huge success.
Mr. Onoyima commended the large turnout of workers and their active participation in all the activities of the week, describing it as demonstration of their support to what the administration of Governor Chime is doing for them and residents of the State.
The Head of Service used the occasion to recall what the administration did and is still doing to better the lots of workers and residents of the State.
According to him, these included the recall of workers disengaged by the previous administration, settlement of arrears of leave allowances owed workers, absorption of staff of Enugu State Agricultural Development Agency (ENADEP) and Enugu State Waste Management Authority (ESWAMA) into the Civil Service of the State and prompt payment of their monthly salary, among others.
He, therefore, used the occasion to assure the Governor that workers would continue to discharge their duties and help Government to executive its programmes in the over all interest of the people and development of the state.
The cultural day celebration featured various cultural devices by the staff of various ministries, departments and government agencies during which Government House cultural dancing troupe emerged the overall winner with a cash prize of one hundred thousand naira (N100, 000).
The second and third positions went to the Ministries of Health and the Office of Head of Service, respectively, with cash prizes of fifty and hundred thousand naira each.
In the same vein , the award for the cultural troupe with best costume went to the Ministry of Works with cash prize of fifty thousand naira while the cash prize of fifty thousand naira for the cultural troupe with best organised group went to Ministry of Transport, among others.
