FA Postpones Rivers Governor’s Cup
The 2010 edition of the football tournament tagged “Rivers State Governor’s cup” scheduled to kick-off yesterday has been postponed.
This was made known Tuesday, by state football Association Secretary Ibigoni Benjamin-Akobo during a chat with Tidesports in Port Harcourt.
It follows the resolve of stakeholders of the competition (Governors Cup) that the former date be shifted he explained, adding that, the new date for the tournament is yet to be known.
Meanwhile, a total of 19 local government area, registered for this year’s edition of the competition.
The teams include Okirika, Abua/Odual, Emohua, Gokana, Khana, Port Harcourt, Ogu/Bolo, Asari-Toru, Ahoada East, Obio/Akpor and Eleme Local Government Area.
Others are Eleme, Bonny, Oyigbo, Akuku-Toru, Degema, Etche, Omuma, Onelga, and Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area.
The tournament is however open to the participation of the 23 local government areas in Rivers State.
The FA scribe noted that all FIFA, CAF and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) rules will be observed during the tournament emphasising that any player who participated in NFF organized competition (premier league, National League down to Amateur III in the state 2008/2009, 2009/2010 football seasons is not qualified to participate in the tournament.
