Enugu Songhai Initiative Kicks – off

The Enugu Songhai Initiative has kicked off in Enugu State with the arrival of twenty two staff of Songhai Regional Institute at Adarice in Uzo-Uwani local government council of the state which serves as the base for the project.

Mr. Chuks Ugwoke, State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, disclosed this while briefing the press at the end of the state executive council meeting presided over by Governor Sullivan Chime at the Government House, Enugu.

He further stated that in addition, rehabilitation work had also commenced at both Adarice farm and Heneke Lake Mother Farm to ensure the smooth take-off of the project, noting that one hundred and seventy two graduates trained for the project at Benin Republic were back in the state and ready for the project.

Mr. Ugwoke also used the occasion to inform the people of the state that rehabilitation work on urban roads has commenced in some streets in New Layout including Ebe Lane, Udoji and Onyiuke streets, as well as Asata Mine.

According to him , energization of the traffic lights mounted at major road junctions in the State capital has also commenced, adding that soon, there would be functional traffic lights to ease traffic jam on the major roads in the state.

He also disclosed that while allocation of shops is on going at the mechanic village, government is acquiring more land to accommodate those that have not benefited from the allocation.

Mr. Ugwoke made it clear that the state government used the occasion of the council meeting to appeal to relatives of the mentally deranged and beggars along the roads and streets in the state to take them off the streets as government is embarking on exercise to clear the people concerned from the roads.
