Ebonyi Endorses Jonathan’s Presidential Bid
Governor Martin Elechi of Ebonyi on Monday declared that the people of Ebonyi would massively vote for President Goodluck Jonathan in next year’s presidential election.
Elechi made the declaration in Abakaliki when the state House of Assembly presented him with its resolution of endorsing Jonathan as the flag bearer of PDP in the election.
“Individuals who are aspiring for the position should not bother to come to Ebonyi for their campaigns because Ebonyi people will only vote for Jonathan.
“Nigerians should rally round and support Jonathan’s presidential bid despite the lingering zoning issue, because the country was about getting it right in picking a worthy and acceptable president”, he said.
The governor, who is the South East Zonal Coordinator of the Jonathan/Sambo Presidential Campaign Organisation, added that Jonathan’s adoption was not a favour to him nor the people of the Niger Delta but done to the whole ethnic nationalities that made up the country.
“This is the first time in recallable history that a president had made bold steps in fixing most of the perennial problems bedeviling the country such as: power, fuel scarcity, infrastructural development etc,” he said.
He commended the House for adopting the resolution, noting that it had always blazed the trail in taking decisions that would uplift the well being of people of the state and Nigerians in general.
Mr Augustine Nwankwagu, Speaker of the House, noted that it decided to adopt the resolution because it was in the best interest of Nigerians who had long yearned for purposeful leadership. “President Goodluck Jonathan represents the much needed generational change in the leadership of the country as he had tackled several problems confronting the nation within a short time in office. “It is therefore necessary that he should be supported to continue in office in order to complete the uphill task of correcting ills that had hampered the nation’s growth and development,” he said.
He noted that adoption of a similar motion by the Conference of South-East Speakers of Houses of Assembly, which converged in Abakaliki recently, showed that the Ebonyi House of Assembly acted in the right direction.
All the members of the state Houses of Assembly, members of the state Executive Council and other top governmental officials witnessed the presentation.
