Don’t Blame Non-Performance On Opposition – Clergy
Rev Chukwuemeka Okoli in charge of Isiukwuato Anglican Communion, has said on Tuesday that those in authority should stop attributing their non-performance to the activities of the opposition.
Okoli said this in Isiukwato during a civic reception in honour of Chief Emma Nwaka, Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia, adding that opposition was a virile concept to move the polity.
The clergy urged the electorate to be wary of those politicians who would come seeking for their vote to return to power when they had nothing to show for it
“Those in authority should see their elevation as opportunity to serve the members of the public meritoriously and not to amass wealth”.
“Those leaders who blame their non-performance on the opposition should not be taken seriously, because they cannot do better if given a second chance,” he said.
He regretted that while the country’s infrastructure had continued to deteriorate, “our leaders still travel abroad in drones to stuck away public funds and to buy landed property without shame”.
He said that the time for those in authority to exhibit the spirit of patriotism by using public funds entrusted in their care to better the lives of the citizenry was now.
Okoli said that the 2011 general elections should serve as a litmus test against greedy politicians, whom, he charged the electorate not to spare, but to vote out of office.
In his speech, Governor Theodore Orji said that his administration was desirous of enhancing the fortunes of residents of the state before the expiration of his tenure, and solicited their support for his second term ambition.
Nwaka said that he would be honest and transparent in the discharge of his duties while assuring a level playing ground for all PDP aspirants in the party’s primaries.
In an interview, Chief Iyke Ibe,chairman of the organising committee described Nwaka as a man of peace and proven integrity “who has restored peace and unity to Abia PDP since he came on board”.
Prominent among those who attended the event include Abia Deputy Governor, Chief Acho Nwakanma, former governor of Cross River state, retired Navy Captain Christian Osondu.
Others were the pioneer chairman of PDP in Abia and member of PDP Board of Trustee, Tony Ukasanya.
