Companies Submit Proposal For Goal Line Technologies

Companies which have submitted proposals for goal-line technologies to the International Football Association Board (IFAB) have until the end of November to make their presentations to the IFAB.

Tidesports source reports that IFAB gave the deadline after its meeting at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, Wales on Wednesday.

IFAB members agreed that the technology would only apply to the goal line and would determine whether a goal was scored or not.

It was also agreed that the system must be accurate, automatic and confirmed within a second.

The confirmation whether a goal had been scored would only be communicated to the match officials.

The proposed testing period of the testing would take place with selected companies before IFAB’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on March 4 to March 6, 2011 when the next step would be taken.

A deadline of the end of November, 2010 was set for companies to initially present their technologies to FIFA.

A proposed testing period will then take place with a selected number of companies, prior to the IFAB AGM, when the next steps of the process will be determined.

The IFAB also heard an update on the eight additional assistant referees experiment that was approved at the IFAB Special Meeting in July 2010.

Ongoing experiments are currently being conducted by UEFA, the French Football Association, the Moroccan Football Association and the Qatar Football Association.

Further experiments will commence in other competitions in 2011 in Cote d’Ivoire, Mexico and Brazil.

The experiment phase will continue until the conclusion of the 2011/2012 season, according to IFAB.
