Commission Boss Urges Caution On New Salary
Chairman, Enugu State Civil Service Commission, Mr. Albert Nnamani has advised workers in the area to enter into negotiations with the government on a new salary scale.
He told the newsmen in Enugu that negotiation was a better option to strike, which could distrupt the entire service.
The Tide’s source reports that the workers union has been mobilising its members for an industrial action to agitate for a salary increase to bring them at par with federal workers.
Nnamani described the administration of Governor Sullivan Chime as humane and workers friendly.
He explained that soon after he assumed office, Chime directed the commission to clear the arrears of promotion of workers between 2007 and 2008.
Nnamani said the commission was currently conducting promotion exercise for workers who were due for elevation in 2009, in line with its constitutional mandate.
He said that as a result of government’s embargo on recruitment into the civil service, the commission had not been able to employ fresh hands.
He expressed optimism that the embargo would soon be lifted.
