Capitalisation Rises By N106.4bn As Market Value, Volume Fall
As All-share market capitalisation rose by N106.4 billion at the end of transactions on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), as at Monday, the value and volume of listed equities depreciated to differentiate the performance of market indicators.
Market capitalisation went up by 1.8 per cent from N5.8 trillion traded Friday, to close higher at N5.9 trillion on Monday.
Specifically, market closed at 24,206.50 points, appreciating by 434.1 points or 1.8 per cent from 23,772.40 points that closed last week’s trading on Friday.
Investors bought a total of 200,760,187 shares worth N1.9 billion in 5,131 deals, in contrast to 333,911,455 shares valued at N2.4 trillion which exchanged hands in 5,567 deals.
The volume of traded equities declined by 133,151,268 shares or 39.9 per cent from 333.911,455 shares traded Friday to close lower at 200,760187 shares.
Also, the value of shares traded went down by N485.1 million or 20.2 per cent from N2.4 billion, to close lower at N1.9 billion.
While the volume and value of traded equities depreciated, the market capitalisation and ASI index appreciated.
On the gainers chart, Guinness and NB were on top of the chart after making N8.67 and N1.90 gains per share respectively.
The losers chart was led by UACN after losing N1.86 per share respectively.
The banking sub-sector still maintained its grip on the market, as investors traded a total of 131,645,119 shares worth N958 million in 2,715 deals.
Food/Beverages and Tobacco followed with 5,470,264 shares valued at N93.3 million which exchanged hands in 416 deals.
