Police Arraign 2 For Alleged Kidnapping
Two men, Kenneth Okegba, 34 and Konyebagu Chukwuka, 39, were yesterday arraigned in Asaba for allegedly possessing firearms, live ammunition and kidnapping.
The accused were docked before an Asaba Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly committing the offence on June 29.
The state Counsel, Mr A. M. Mohammed, told the court that the accused and others now at large on the same day at Cable Point in Asaba unlawfully possessed four AK 47 rifles.
Mohammed also told the court that the accused and others now at large on the same day and place committed the offence of kidnapping.
He also told the court that the accused on the same day and place allegedly imprisoned one Miss Ifeoma Onyia.
Mohammed also told the court that the accused and others now at large same day and place allegedly demanded with menace from Onyia the sum of N100 million.
According to prosecution counsel, the demand was with the intention to steal.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Helen Okonkwo-Ikeh, who did not take the plea of the accused, said that the case was beyond the jurisdiction of her court.
She therefore, ordered that the copies of case files of the accused be sent to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice.
Okonkwo-Ikeh also ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case to Aug. 30 for mention.
