NUJ Gets Befitting Secretariat, Soon

The Rivers State Government has disclosed its intentions to build a befitting Secretariat for the State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ).

The Commissioner of Information and Communications, Mrs Ibim Semenitari made this known to the NUJ State Executive in a meeting she held with them in her office last Wednesday.

The Hon. Commissioner also said that the state government is prepared to demolish the existing building which was deroofed by rainstorm and undertake the construction of a new building to suit the union’s specifications and to be completed in the next three months, starting from this month of August.

“But, the union will have to give up ownership of their property in GRA for a permanent ownership of the property at Ernest Ikoli Press centre”, she added.

She, however, advised the council to ensure that necessary documents for the proposed secretariat building and the C of O of the GRA property are accessible.

Responding, the Council Chairman, Mr. Opaka Dokubo, on behalf of the council expressed his gratitude to the state governor and the commissioner for their hand of love,

In his remark, the Chairman of the Correspondent’s chapel, Mr. Lawson Heyford said that, “this is a development we have all been waiting for, for many years and its credit goes to the governor and our able commissioner because it is coming to pass in their tenure”.

He noted that the present Government has taken remarkable steps toward ensuring the good of the people and called on them to take further steps to ensure that other organs of the Ministry are affected by the infrastructural update.
