The Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has approved the establishment of two new Mega Filling Stations in Bayelsa State.

The new filling stations are to be located in Ogbia town and Okordia/Zarama, both in Ogbia and Yenagoa Local Government Areas, respectively.

State Commissioner for Information, Strategy and Orientation, Mr. Nathan Egba, who disclosed this to newsmen shortly after the weekly State Executive meeting, said Governor Timipre Sylva, informed council members of the approval.

Egba said the two new filling stations, when operational, will further ensure steady supply of petroleum products within the state.

He also announced that NNPC has concluded plans to establish a branch office of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) in Yenagoa to ensure close monitoring of petroleum supplies in the state.

The Commissioner, who expressed delight at the increasing Federal presence in the state, said a new Maritime Academy has also been approved for the state by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency,(NIMASA).

He noted that Bayelsans would benefit greatly from the Maritime Academy in the training of new sets of seafarers, divers and pilots.

Egba used the medium to announce the proposed setting up of a Bayelsa State Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Agency, which, he said, would manage all government public-private partnership initiatives.

According to him, a bill for the establishment of the Agency had been presented to the council by the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Anthony George-Ikoli.

The Commissioner further disclosed that the Bill would soon be forwarded to the State House of Assembly for consideration.

He stated that the proposal for the new agency was borne out of the necessity for the government to hands-off from the management of commercial investments of the state.

Egba said the agency would manage all segments of the economy ranging from government investments in power plants, sea ports, transportation and health.
