Insecurity In South- East Worries Journalists
Journalists practicing in the South East Zone of the country have expressed worry over the state of insecurity in the zone occasioned by the increasing rate of kidnapping and arm banditry.
In a six-point communiqué issued at the end of a one-day meeting of the Zone C of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) comprising Abia, Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi States held in Enugu and endorsed by the Vice President of the Zone, Sir Ambrose Nwachukwu, the journalists commended efforts of the State Governments in the zone in tackling the menace.
Expressing happiness over the freedom of the four abducted journalists recently, the meeting commended the Police, SSS, and other security operative, as well as the Abia State Government for their various roles in ensuring the release of the kidnapped journalists unharmed.
According to the communiqué, the meeting also urged the Federal Government to adequately equip the Police and other law enforcement agencies with modern security gadgets to enable them flush out criminals both in the zone and the country at large.
