Imoke Excited Over Hosting Of SPE Confab In Tinapa

Cross River State Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke has described the hosting of the 34th International Conference and Exhibition of the Society of Petroleum Engineers in Tinapa Business Resort, Calabar, as exciting.

Declaring the event open, Senator Imoke commended the leadership of SPE Nigeria for choosing Calabar as the first city to host the event outside Abuja in ten years.

He said the development was evidence of new things happening in the Niger Delta.

The Chairman, SPE Nigeria Council, Engineer Anthony Abolarin was the 2010 conference is aimed at discussing regional trends in the oil industry.

With the theme, “meeting the World Energy Demand and Supply Mix: The Role of Africa Sub Region”, Engineer Abolarin expressed optimism that the major challenges in the industry will be duly addressed.

The opening ceremony was attended by SPE big weights and captains of the energy industry, including Dr Emmanuel Egbogah, special adviser to the president on petroleum and former Africa Regional Director, SPE, Engineer Alex Musa. The rest are current Africa Regional Director and SPE Nigeria Council Chairman, Engineer Anthony Abolarin, and his Vice, Adeyemi Akinlawori, Mutiu Sunmonu, country chair, Shell Companies in Nigeria, and Philip Chukwu, group executive director, Exploration and Production at NNPC.

Others included the CEOs or representatives of Total Companies in Nigeria, Exxon Mobil and Addax Petroleum Nigeria.

It would be recalled that the Annual International Conference and Exhibition of the SPE Nigeria is a significant event which has in the past 33 years attracted thousands of leading minds in the upstream petroleum industry within and outside Africa.
