FHA Assures Super Eagles Of Houses

The Federal Housing Authority (FHA) is working hard to ensure that all members of the Super Eagles who won the 1994 African Nations’ Cup get the houses which the Federal Government allocated to them.

The sports source  recalls that the Super Eagles defeated the Chipolopolo of Zambia to lift the African Cup of Nations’ trophy that year in appreciation of their feat, the second time the Eagles would win the trophy, the Federal Government rewarded them with houses.

Gemade, speaking  with newsmen on Sunday, in Abuja ,  said the delay in allocating the houses the Super Eagles chose in Lagos was because their estate was under litigation.

“I have given them all the assurance that the moment we vacate the injunction on that estate, we will be able to complete these houses and then give them their houses.

“ We know that we own about 23 of those houses now out of the 37 that we were to give them. Of course, some of them have already been delivered,’’ he said.

He debunked insinuations that staff of the FHA were demanding money from the players to give them their houses.

“On the Eagles, I wouldn’t know whether any of my staff has been involved in asking for anything from members of the team. I don’t believe that,’’ he said.

Gemade said that some of the players who chose houses in Abuja had got them, while those who chose Lagos had yet to get theirs.

He added that the players were, however, given an option to each pick a new house at a new price but none had agreed.

“They are still waiting for their houses that they paid for in 1994 at about N600,000, and such houses are about N10 million to N12 million. What do you do?’’ he queried.
