Death Toll In Lawmaker’s Auto Crash Rises
No fewer than three other persons died in Tuesday’s auto crash that claimed the wife of a legislator in Enugu State as well as the driver of their vehicle.
This has brought to five the number of casualties recorded in the accident which occurred at Nenwe Junction on the Enugu-Port Harcourt road.
The lawmaker, Mr Emmanuel Maduabu (PDP- Awgu South), is lying critical at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Ituku-Ozalla, near Enugu.
His wife, Ifesinachi Maduabu, who was nursing a six- week-old baby, died in the accident.
Hyginus Fuomsuk, the Enugu Sector Commander of the FRSC, confirmed the deaths, saying the additional three casualties were two passengers and the driver of a mass transit bus belonging to Awgu Local Government.
Fuomsuk said that while the remains of the deceased had been deposited in a morgue, other passengers who sustained injuries were being treated at a private hospital in Awgu as well as at the UNTH.
He said it was regrettable that the lawmaker was driving against the traffic, which led to a collision with the mass transit bus.
The sector commander warned motorists to desist from acts that could have devastating effects on other road users.
