Chukwumerije, Obi Consider Return To PDP
Senator Uche Chukwumerije, formerly of PPA, and Senator Ben Obi of AC on Thursday said they were considering returning to PDP on which platform they first entered the National Assembly.
The senators spoke to newsmen shortly after meeting with the party’s National Chairman, Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo, in Abuja.
They said they left PDP because they were deregistered, “but our considered return will be predicated on the heels of an appeal from the new chairman to join him actualise the new policy of democratising the PDP”.
Chukwumerije said he would consult with his Abia North constituents in order to actualise the move, adding: “I want to go by the wishes of the people.”
Chukwumerije said the appeal from Nwodo to return to the PDP was of national interest.
On his part, Obi said he would also consult with his associates and consider if he would return to PDP.
He expressed satisfaction with the new leadership of PDP, which he described as focused to drive the party to greater heights through increased internal party democracy.
Obi urged other aggrieved PDP members who left the party in the past to give the new leadership a listening ear.
Obi said it was early to determine if he would be a running mate to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar as he was in the 2007 presidential poll.
