Auto Scrap Dealers Woo Investors
Auto scrap dealers at Motor Parts Market, Ikoku, Diobu in Port Harcourt Local Government Area of Rivers State, have described scrap collection business as not only highly profitable, but is also emerging as the engine room of the technological development of the nation.
The dealers stated this through their spokesman Mr. Kajetan Iwuoha on Thursday during a sensitisation campaign embarked upon for its members on the need to join force with the Rivers State Government towards ensuring an environmentally safe state, especially during every Thursday sanitation.
According to him, scrap collection is the recycling hub of the nation’s economy. “Members of the public should recognise that there is dignity in scrap collection and movement of scrap either on cart or otherwise. This has necessitated the image rebranding, re-focusing of the association so that dealers can be in tune with the on-going urban development and beautification and people-oriented projects of this administration”, he added.
He advised the public to change their mindset towards dealers, noting that they only go about legitimate duties in their various locations.
Another dealer who spoke with The Tide, Mr. Ihekwaba Chioma wondered why many youths in the state cannot swallow their pride and join them, saying that the sub-sector cannot be ignored as it currently plays a major role in the huge revenue generated by governments, owing to its large concentration on industries and vehicular existence.
A customer who patronises the scrap market told The Tide on condition of anonymity, that unemployed youths should align themselves with the business and take advantage of the profitability associated with the venture. This he argued, will assist the youths in being self-reliance and stop being perpetual job seekers.
