2011 Polls: Group Drums Support For Amaechi

A political pressure group in Rivers State, Committee of Rivers Patriots (CORP), has appealed to both indigenes and non-indigenes of Rivers State to lend their voices in asking Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi to accept to contest the 2011 governorship election in the state.

This was part of the resolutions reached by the group after its meeting held in Port Harcourt last weekend.

A statement issued after the meeting and signed by CORP’s chairman, Mr Wodu Ndubuisi and Secretary General, Mr Minikwu C. Macdonald said a second term would give Governor Amaechi the opportunity to complete his new blue-print for the development of the state.

CORP regretted that the history of most of our past administrations is replete with cases where new administrations had abandoned laudable projects initiaited by their predecessors, inspite of the billions of naira sank into them and stressed that such development had cost the state so much retrogression. The political pressure group viewed the participation of Governor Amaechi in the million-man match in Edo State for one man, one vote as an eloquent testimony of his preparedness to doggedly see to the strengthening of the institutions that bring about genuine democratic setting, especially as it affects election matters in Rivers State and urged all political players to respect the peoples will in 2011 election.

CORP condemned what it described as poor consultation approaches by political representatives at all levels and enjoined the electorates to vote only persons who would consult them on public issues and respect their interests in the forthcoming election.
