Swimmers Urge Govt, Stakeholders To Develop Sport
Swimmers at a two-day National Swimming Classics in Lagos have appealed to the state and federal governments to adequately fund the sport and maintain existing pools at the stadia.
In separate interviews with newsmen at the weekend during the closing of the classics, the swimmers urged the government and other stakeholders to do more to develop swimming.
The event organised by the Nigeria Swimming Federation (NSF) was aimed at imparting modern swimming techniques to 26 exceptional swimmers selected from previous championships.
Tebesia Nemune from Delta appealed to the Federal Government to help develop the sport through funding and give the swimming pools at the stadia a facelift.
Nemune commended the NSF and sponsor, O’Jez Entertainment Centre for organising the programme, noting that it was assisting in developing the sport.
Deborah Tona of Delta also shared the same view and pledged her commitment to win laurels whenever selected to represent Nigeria at any international competition.
