Senator Seeks Re-Election In Plateau
Senator Gyang Dantong (Plateau North-PDP) has declared his intention to seek re-election for a second term at the expiration of his term as a Senator in 2011.
Dantong had been a member of the House of Representative representing Riyom-Barkin Ladi Federal Constituency between 2003 and 2007 before becoming a Senator.
The Senator made known his intention on Friday, in Jos when together with his supporters he visited the headquarters of the PDP to formally announce his plans.
He said his constituents had backed his desire “to continue to represent them in the senate due to his credible achievements”.
According to him, the PDP still remains a formidable party to beat in the Plateau North Senatorial zone and assured of mobilising the electorate for the party’s success in the entire state.
“The PDP is a strong party in the state and anyone, who is not, should not consider he is a politician”, he said.
He said he along many other aspirants in the party had been waiting for the party to officially allow members to declare their intention.
Dantong said he was largely responsible for formulating a new law in the National Assembly that would help regulate and help our health system.
According to him, he is also responsible for sponsoring and raising motions which have impacted on good governance.
He said as a medical doctor by training, it was his desire that the Plateau North zone had a very efficient and effective health system to cater for the health needs of the people.
On education, he said he had constructed modern classroom blocks with facilities apart from awarding scholarships to underprivileged students from the zone.
Dantong said he would consolidate on his current achievements when returned to serve the zone come 2011.
Responding, state PDP Chairman Prof. Dakum Shown said Dantong had always identified with the party in the state and commended him for all he had been doing to push for good governance.
The Tide learnt that Mr. Jack Pam has signified his intention to represent Plateau North in the Senate come 2011.
