Road Carnage: FRSC Seeks More Technical Support, Equipment

Deputy Corps-Marshall, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi, has appealed for more technical support and equipment to adequately reduce road accidents on the roads.

Oyeyemi told newsmen in Zaria, Kaduna State that for the commission to perform its statutory duties, it needed more technical support and equipment.

“We have about 194,000 kilometres of road network in Nigeria and 34,000 inter-state and federal roads. Therefore, we need to be more visible on the road so that we can enforce the traffic rules and regulations. So, we need more technical support. Once we are visible, we will be able to reduce the carnage on our roads,” he said.

On enlightenment campaign, Oyeyemi said that currently rallies were going on in Kano, Ibadan, Bauchi, Yola and many other major towns across the country.

According to him, creating awareness is a daily affair conducted by various FRSC commands in the country.

The deputy corps-Marshall said that there was the need for people to be mindful of road signs, pointing out that people to be mindful of road signs, pointing out that people did not need to be literate to understand road signed.

He also said that road signs had been translated into the three major languages for the people to understand them.

Oyeyime advised motorists   to ensure that they understood and intreprete the road signs and shouls obey them.
