Following an alarm raised by the leadership of the House of Representatives over the amendment draft of the 1999 constitution sent to the various State Houses of Assembly, Deputy Chairman of the Conference of National Political Parties (CNPP) in Rivers State, Rev. Minabi Dagogo Jack has called for further investigation into the matter.
Dagogo Jack who spoke to news reporters over the weekend observed that such development was unhealthy for the country’s wobbling democracy.
The Rivers CNPP deputy chairman said the row between the Senate and the House of Representatives over some part of the amended constitution passed to the various Houses of Assembly for consideration.
Dagogo-Jack who is also Rivers State Chairman of Fresh Democratic Party (FDP) said that Nigerians deserve to know those responsible for the alternation of the constitution.
He said such development was quite risky especially how the country was at the verge of conducting another election.
With both legislative Houses accusing each other of tampering with some parts of the amended constitution, the FDP chairman advised that all efforts should be made not to hinder the smooth passage of the draft law before the elections.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dimeyi Bankole has assured that the disagreement over the alteration would not affect the conduct of 2011 elections.
The House had raised alarm a week ago, when it accused the Senate of altering some parts of the amended 1999 constitution set to the State Houses of Assebly for debate.
