REC Advises Citizens On Voters Registration Exercise

The Rivers State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Barr. Austin Ugoji has appealed to the people of Abua/Odual Local Government Area (ABOLGA) Rivers State to co-operate with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in its efforts to enlighten the people on the on-going review and voters registration exercise.

Barr. Ugoji who made the call during a campaign at Abua/Odual Local Government Area urged the council chairman Mr. Udi Odum to work with traditional rulers in the area to ensure success of the exercise.

He advised youths in the area to shun any monetary inducements from politicians who would want to recruit them as political thugs to rig election, rendering than that such action would ruin their live.

The resident electoral commissioner said that following crediticians which trailed the 2007 general elections, INEC was poised to adopting new  voting process in order to make the 2011 polls credible.

Earlier in his welcome address, the chairman of the council area Mr. Udi Odum who spoke through his deputy, Mr. John Edum stated that the people of ABOLGA would participate in all the electoral programmes in accordance with their civic responsibilities, and pledged council’s commitment to the success of the exercise in the area.  

Also speaking the traditional ruler of Ogbo-Abuan, Chief Mayor Umah commanded the commission for organizing the campaign, describing it as timely.
