Chief Anthony Agbazuere, Special Adviser on Media to Abia Governor, said in Umuahia  that the security breaches and political wrangling going on in the state had in no way portrayed Abia as the worst.

Agbazuere said this on Thursday during a courtesy visit on him by the National Association of Abia Students led by student union leaders of the four tertiary institutions in the state.

The schools are Abia State University , Uturu (ABSU), Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State Polytechnic, Aba , and Abia State College of Education (Technical), Arochukwu.

He said that the state government had shown the political will to stamp out crime, adding that contrary to speculations that the amnesty programme had collapsed the scheme was still on course and had registered much progress.

Agbazuere appealed to the students to partner government in the onerous task of protecting lives and properties of residents of the state.

He said that the state government was committed to making the education sector one of the best, adding that some of the reforms introduced by the state government since the inception of the current administration had stood “the test of time”.

Earlier, Mr Udemba Ngeleoka, President, Student Union of ABSU, said that the group was impressed with the activities of the government over the years, espercially in the area of upgrading all the institutions of higher learning in the state.

He said that the feat recorded by the state government had made some of the institutions “a force to reckon with not just in the country, but also in the continent”.

“We condemn the plot by some people to cause breach of peace and call on our fellow students in all tertiary institutions not to be used by anybody in heating up the polity,” Ngeleoka said.
