Police To Install CCTV Cameras In PH
As part of efforts to ensure effective monitoring of its officers and men manning road blocks in Rivers State, as well as improve security on the road, the state police command has said it will install close Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) on the roads in Port Harcourt.
Disclosing this to newsmen in Port Harcourt while parading some suspected armed robbers, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Suleiman Abbas said the four were arrested after they carried out an armed robbery attack at Rukpokwu in Obio/Akpor.
According to him, “our men at the road blocks will be monitored with cameras to be able to see what they are doing. This is so because anything they do will be recorded. It is going to be outright dismissal if we find anyone engage in corrupt practices.”
The police boss also assured the people of the state on the preparedness of the police to improve security in the state.
He said the command has acquired new and modern communication equipment and vehicles through the efforts of the state government, to boost the fight against crime in the state.
“The state government has made a commitment and I assure you that the vehicles will be there, and not only that, we will make sure that our men do not use the vehicles outside where and what they are meant for.
“That is the beauty of the recent innovation. The vehicles surely will be 100 per cent used for the purpose for which they are acquired,” he said.
Already, the command has arrested over 60 suspected armed robbers and over 41 kidnap suspects within the last six months.
