PHCN Ends 6-Month Blackout In Ndele

There was jubilation penultimate Sunday at Ndele community in Emohua Local Government Area, Rivers State, when electricity supply was restored in the area after what residents described as frustrating six months blackout.

Mr. Kingsley Anuri, a former youth leader in Ndele confirmed to The Tide that “at first, a flicker of light was noticed and few minutes later, the flicker gave way to full-blown current”.

The community had been thrown into darkness since February this year, following a rain storm which fell palms and other economic trees, and damaged PHCN facilities that linked Rumuji with Ndele.

Social and economic activities were hampered by the development and attempts to restore power supply consistently failed until penultimate Sunday.

Apart from the local people, the Rivers State University of Education Demonstration Secondary School, Ndele, was also affected.

A teacher in the school, who spoke to our reporter said the long blackout was a big challenge that impacted negatively on security, social and academic activities.

A senior PHCN official explained that repair work was still going on but expressed hope that “in few days time,  normal light will be restored”.
