PAC Doubts INEC
The National Chairman of Progressive Action Congress (PAC), Chief Charles Nwodo, in Abuja on Thursday expressed doubt on the ability of INEC to conduct free and fair elections in 2011.
Nwodo, who expressed the doubt in an interview with newsmen said there was a need to overhaul the Commission’s entire activities, mode of operation and work force if it must conduct free and fair elections in 2011.
He argued that although Prof. Attahiru Jega was a man of integrity, he would find it difficult to conduct free and fair elections when he was surrounded by politicians who “are not interested in moving the country forward’’.
According to him, former INEC Chairman, Maurice Iwu, is not the problem of the Commission but the people that are around him.
“Some of the national and state resident commissioners are politicians, some have contested elections before, and one was a member of Board of Trustee of a party, ‘’ he noted.
He wondered how such people could be expected to provide a level-playing field when as seasoned politicians, they would want to work for their interest and not that of the nation.
