NPL Sets Up Committee To Review League Rules
The Nigeria Premier League (NPL) said in Abuja that it had set up a seven-man committee to oversee the review of and necessary amendments to its competition’s rules and regulations.
Mr Davidson Owumi, whose position as the elected chairman of the NPL is being disputed, said on Thursday that the move was in a bid to ensure the rules and regulations governing its competition were in tune with the modern trend.
Tidesports source reports that the NPL organises the Nigerian Premier League.
Enyimba International FC of Aba emerged the champions of the 2009/2010 season on July 7.
“The committee has Brig.-Gen. Emmanuel Okaro (rtd.) as chairman, and Mr Isaac Danladi as vice-chairman, with Mr. Paul Bassey and Chief Adegboye Onigbinde as some of the members.
“The rest members are Dr. Abu Mallam, Mr Suleiman David and Malam Alhassan Yakmut, the NPL Executive Secretary who will serve as secretary,’’ Owumi said.
He said reviewing the rules had become a necessity judging by the experience of the just-concluded season.
“If we have to move forward, then we should not be afraid to take the decisions and do the right thing, and the committee will be meeting in Abuja in the next two weeks to collate their views.
“Already, copies of the rules and regulations have already been sent to members of the committee,’’ Owumi added.
