The management of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has been told to reposition the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa to meet global standards.

President of the Nigeria Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NCCIMA), Dr Samuel Chukwuemeka Okolo made the call in an interview with The Tide correspondent at the Port Harcourt International  Airport.

Dr Okolo observed that the present posture of the airport is not befitting  a city as Port Harcourt.

He said that although the airport has improved from what it was in the past, the facilities need to be upgraded to compete with other airports in Nigeria and other countries.

“The Port Harcourt International Airport should be better positioned in terms of fire safety, security and equipment as well as travelers welfare”, he stressed.

The NCCIMA president emphasised the need for adequate power supply at the airport, saying that attention should be paid to the provision  of more chairs in the departure hall for the comfort of travellers.

He condemned the engagement of causal workers by FAAN, pointing out that it was tantamount to enslavery because  “every Nigerian of working age is entitled to normal and regular wage”, he said.
