The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has summoned Aero Airline to explain the rationale behind the introduction of a fuel surcharge of N500 on all its air fares.

The increase, its Director-General, Mr. Harold Demuren, explained is to get the blessing of the apex regulatory agency.

Demuren told journalists that according to regulatory requirements, the airline needed to form and get the approval of the NCAA before it could head to try out such increase, adding that it was not out of the ordinary for the airline to carry out such increase, but it needed to follow a statutory process.

Scores of passengers have been reacting to the marginal increase which they said is not out of place, if it would add value to the airlines services.

Last month, the regional airline announced the introduction of Aero ticket voucher for its customers in Nigeria and Ghana, which took effect from July 1. The ticket voucher is an account that serves the same purpose as the existing debit cards, that is, the interswitch and the E-Tranzact payment cards.                       The difference is that all subsequent transactions on the ticket voucher rest within Aero’s platform once the initial payment has been made. This payment option is more flexible, easy, unique and convenient to use for ticket booking and upgrading. This voucher can be purchased for a value starting from N1,000 up to any value. With the voucher, customers can make one or several bookings online as long as the voucher is funded enough to pay for the booking.

Aero’s Head of Commercial, Robert Prophet, said while announcing the innovative service that they are pleased to introduce the ticket voucher which further assures their customers that they are always one step ahead in ensuring convenience, safety and security.
