More PPA Members Defect To PDP In Abia

The former National Publicity Secretary of the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), Mr Ben Onyechere, said on Friday that he resigned from the party due to lack of internal democracy within the party.

Onyechere told newsmen in Abuja that he had to quit because he could no longer cope.

“I had to leave PPA because I had a lot of difficulties while in the party,” he said.

He also said that the decision was as a result of what he described as the “use and dump policy in the party”.

On whether he had plans to join any other party, Onyechere said: “I have not moved to anywhere, but when I do you will know.’’

It will be recalled that Sen. Uche Chukwumerije representing Abia North Senatorial District last Thursday in Abuja also announced the withdrawal of his membership from the PPA.

Chukwumerije, who is the only Senator on the platform of the PPA, attributed his decision to quit the party to the recent travails that led to his being issued a query by the party’s national leadership.

He further explained that the reason for his resignation from the PPA was the “issue of a query” and the reading of riot act to Abia State governor, which, he noted, was purportedly issued by PPA’s national chairman.

He noted that the choice of the medium used and the query issued him was in itself undemocratic.

He further described the query by the national chairman of PPA as “a perfect case of teleguide”.

He said that the query was orchestrated by some unnamed owners of the PPA.

Chukwumerije had yet to announce what his next move would be, explaining: “I will move subject to the views of my constituents”.
