LG Warns Against Indiscriminate Dumping Of Refuse
As the Nsukka Local Government Area embarks on the clearing of drainages, the Council Chairman has warned indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
Mr Chineme Onyeke, the Special Assistant on projects, who spoke on behalf of the Chairman, Mr Tony Ugwu, said the exercise would ensure free flow of water.
Onyeke told newsmen in Nsukka, said:“removal of debris in gutters will enhance free flow of water in the drainage system within the town.
“Also, as part of the present administration’s determination to improve the health of residents via good environmental sanitation, gutters within the town are being cleared so that there will be no breeding places for mosquitoes.”
Onyeke identified some gutters to be cleared during the exercise to include those at Onuiyi, Odenigbo, Enugu road, GRA, Ogurugu and University roads.
He warned that the council would not take it lightly with any resident found dumping refuse on any hard material that would block the drainages after they had been cleared.
“The council will deal decisively with anyone found guilty, “he said.
According to the governor’s aide, the aim of the exercise is to ensure that the new roads constructed by the Sullivan Chime administration are preserved.
“The council wants to ensure that roads constructed in the area by the state government are preserved,’’ he said.
Onyeke urged the federal government to assist the council to rehabilitate some erosion sites, especially the one in Onuiyi.
