FG Urged To Trim Political Parties
Mr. Austin Ukori, a Delta-based Consulting Engineer and aspirant in 2011 elections, has urged the Federal Government to reduce the number of political parties to three.
“We currently have more than 50 political parties in the country and it is not manageable. The President should trim it down to two or maximum of three,’’ he said.
Though, he said he was an aspirant in the forthcoming elections and a member of PDP, he would not make public declaration until all political reforms were made.
He said the task before Jonathan was how to restore people’s confidence in the electoral process and give the nation credible polls in 2011.
Ukori said: “I want the President to give this nation a credible, free and fair, transparent election in 2011 that will be internationally acceptable”.
He urged Jonathan to address the problem of shortage in power supply in the country within his short time as President.
He also urged the President to contest in the 2011 presidential election, if he wished, saying, “there is no law anywhere that excludes him from contesting if it will not jeopardise a credible election’’.
He said that the zoning arrangement in PDP was unconstitutional and could not be placed in the national domain as a factor to decide which part of the country would produce the president.
