Enugu Builds 80 New Bungalows

The Enugu State Governor, Barrister Sullivan I.  Chime , has commissioned 80  bungalows comprising two and three bed rooms as part of the efforts to met the housing needs of the people.

The bungalows were built by the State Housing Development Corporation.

  The buildings included thirty and fifty units of self contained bungalows located at Palm Beach Housing Estate, Obukpa Nsukka and Green Land Housing Estate Phase III at the old RCC compound along Enugu end of the Enugu Onitsha expressway.

  Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Chime described provision of affordable housing to the people as one of the major cardinal programmes of his administration and commended the board and the management of the corporation for living up to the expectations

  He expressed delight over the project which he described as so dear to our heart, in fulfillment of our part of obligations to our people.

  Governor Chime specifically praised the Chief Executive of the Corporation, Mr. Ikeji Asogwa for bringing his skilled expertise and business acumen to bear in the performance of his duties.

  He, therefore,  promised to assist the corporation in the provision of the needed facilities including the tarring of the internal roads within the estates and also directed the Commissioner for Lands to make more lands available to them for the building of more low cost houses in the state.

  The state Chief Executive observed that the Palm Beach Housing Estate was the first sub-urban estate to be developed outside the state capital by the administration and promised that more of such projects would be established in other parts of the state.

  He also  used the occasion to direct all those allocated parcels of land at the Palm Beach Estate to develop them within the stipulated time frame or have them revoked and re-allocated to those who are ready to develop them.

  The governor equally commended the various contractors that executed the building project for a job well done and promised that by the time the entire package will be fully executed, the problem of housing accommodation in the urban and sub-urban centres in the state would be reduced.

  In his address, the Managing Director of the Corporation, Mr. Asogwa explained that the Palm Beach Estate was developed under five months and said that at the end of the day about 120 self-contained bungalows will be built in the estate.

  Mr. Asogwa disclosed that the Palm Beach Estate was acquired some 20 years ago without any physical development there until February this year when the Governor directed the corporation to develop the area.

  He however, thanked the community where the estate is situated for its cooperation and the state government for the support, which led to the success story of the day.

  The Managing Director assured the Governor of their determination to meet the housing needs of the people as time goes on, adding that by the first quarter of next year, work on the Palm Beach Estate would be completed.

  Also, the Chairman Board of Directors of the Corporation, Chief Nnoli Nnaji in his brief remark thanked the Governor for the support to the board and management and assured him of their commitments to do quality job and to deliver at record time always.
