The Rivers State Ministry of Employment Generation and Empowerment has reconstituted its monitoring unit, dividing the unit into three groups.

Making this known to The Tide midweek, in an exclusive interview in his office, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry,  Hon Monday Ekekentah said the function of the monitoring unit is to visit companies operating and doing business in the state with a view to finding out vacancies in such  companies.

For this purpose, the said, the ministry has purchased two vehicles “for effective and efficient monitoring process”.

Ekekentah stated that following a meeting held on Monday in this respect management has decided to write to companies operating in the state for a meeting to discuss the way forward as it affects employment and Empowerment of Rivers indigenes.

According to him, the visit by the monitoring units to the companies will commence with companies in Obio/Akpor, followed by Port Harcourt Local Government before other parts of the state.

Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary also stated that an official letter will be written to companies operating in the state not to honour any letter from other Government bodies other than the ones originating from the ministry of Employment Generation and Empowerment.

“This is because by the law establishing the ministry, it is the only arm of Government vested with the responsibility of generating employment,” he said.

The visits to the companies, he said, were scheduled to commence from next week.
