Credit Facility: Kwara Assembly Hails FG
The Kwara House of Assembly has applauded the provision of a N200 billion bond by the Federal Government for the Commercial Agriculture Credit Facility Scheme for smallholder farmers.
The commendation came during a notice on motion sponsored by three members of the House, Alhassan Bagidi, Abdulganiyu Abdulkareem and Umar Babatunde, in Ilorin on Wednesday.
The Assembly, however, asked the Federal Government to reduce the 7.0 per cent interest rate and initial advance payment before prospective farmers could access the loan.
The motion was in support of the state government’s intention to access N1 billion from the fund.
The House, in its resolution, agreed that the facility would enhance commercial agriculture and ensure food security in the country.
Contributing to the debate, Assemblyman Razaq Taiwo, the Chief Whip, noted that agriculture remained a viable means of eradicating poverty.
