Abia Assembly Receives Commissioner NomineesList
Gov. Theodore Orji of Abia has sent names of the first batch of 10 commissioner nominees to the state House of Assembly.
The Speaker of the House, Chief Agwu U. Agwu, announced this last Thursday in Umuahia when the Assembly broke off from its six-week recess to attend to pressing state functions.
Our correspondent reports that the Assembly began the recess on June 29 and was expected to reconvene on August 10.
But the notice that recalled members from the recess was issued on July 14 by the clerk of the Assembly, Mr. John Irokansi.
The Governor’s letter to the Assembly was dated July 12.
“You will find below the names of the first batch of commissioners’ nominees for your confirmation before they are sworn-in,” it stated.
According to the list, only two former commissioners, Mrs. Nwada Igwe, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Prince Ezekwesiri Ananaba of Petroleum, made the list in the batch.
Dr. Sam Ahaiwe and Chief Anthony Agbazurere, former Health and Information commissioners in the previous administration, also made the list.
The new faces on the list are Dr. Nick Eleri, former Special Adviser to the governor on Strategic Planning and Mr. Chukwuemeka Nwaogu, former Chairman of Transition Committee, Aba South.
Others include Chief Justine Ogbonna, a chartered accountant; Chief Ngozi Ulunwa, a former legislator; Mr. Solomon Adaelu and Reginald Ezenta.
