15 Parties To Vie For LG Polls
The Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC) has said that 15 political parties have submitted nomination forms, ahead of the October Council polls in the state.
The Chairman of KWASIEC, Mr Bashir Oni, told newsmen that the commission would publish documents of candidates of various political parties latest July 14.
He said that the response from political parties in the state had been encouraging.
“By my record, political parties have indicated their interest to take part in the election,” he said.
He said that bio-data of candidates would be published at various constituencies for people to verify and raise objections at the courts.
Oni pointed out that the commission would make its decision known by August on whether it would reduce its fees for nomination forms.
The commission fixed N100,000 for chairmanship and N50,000 for councilorship positions.
The Chairman said that the commission’s sensitisation visits to local government councils in the state had been successful and rewarding.
According to him, the commission embarked on the visit with a view to having first hand information on problems that were likely to affect the conduct of free and fair elections.
The KWASIEC Chairman explained that justice in all electoral processes was the commission’s priority toward the success of the election.
Oni said that campaign for the council poll would start 90 days before the election and would be concluded 24 hours before the commencement of elections.
