YSFON Chieftain Lauds Amaechi Over Recreational Facilities
A Patron of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Rivers State Branch Chief Jimmy Coker has lauded the Rivers State Governor, Rt Hon. Chubuike Rotimi Amaechi for rehabilitating and reconstructing recreational fields in Port Harcourt metropolis.
Chief Coker, who made the commendation while speaking with Sports Journalists in Port Harcourt said the rehabilitation would encourage the youths to express their energies sporting activities rather than social vices.
He described the gesture as a welcomed development especially at this period government is seeking ways to end youth restiveness. He called on government to ensure that all other recreational grounds used as markets or residential outfits should be retrieved from such illegal occupants and brought back to its former status, just like the numbers five and six fields.
According to him, “now that the youths have embraced amnesty, they should go into sports which is one of the best avenues of rehabilitating them and by grooming them to be future champions of the state.”
On the activities of Youths Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) which he is the National Deputy President, Chief Coker noted that lack of funds and sponsorship have been part of the problems that had hindered its activities in the country.
He however noted that YSFON has played a major role as groomers of young players to major clubsides and called on Government and corporate organisations to assist YSFON in its activities in the country.
