Victims Of Joinkrama Crisis Get Respite Soon
The Rivers State Government’s Care-Taker Committee set up to restore Peace in Eda Egberi Community, popularly called Joinkrama-4 in Ahoada-West Local Government Area of the state, says arrangements have been concluded to replace cars and renovate buildings destroyed during the community chieftaincy crisis in 2007.
The chairman of the committee, Hon. Bonny Otarie Ulolo disclosed this Saturday during the opening of the community’s Festival at Eda Egberi Town, Jonkrama 4.
Hon Otarie-Ulolo said, since companies operating in the area have agreed to support the committee to bring peace to the area, he was confident that within the next five months, casualties in the crisis including the families of the three persons killed would be compensated accordingly.
He assured the people that, the committee, with the support of state government would do everything possible to bring the community back to its normal peaceful environment.
Hon. Otarie Ulolo who commended Governor Chibuike Rotimi Ameachi and the chairman of Ahoada-West Local Government Area, Hon. Miller Awori, said government has contributed immensely in terms of security as well as setting up a neutral C.T.C. in April 2010 to run the Affairs of the community pending the constitution of standing community development committee.
The committee chairman advised members of the community, especially the warring parties to eschew violence and embrace government’s peace initiative in the area.
He further advised the people to celebrate the resumed festival that had been put to stop for the last three years when the community was in tension in unity and in peace.
Speaking with The Tide, the Festival Committee Chairman, Mr. Onisojikurue Boru said the 3-day Festival Would be concluded today at the community play ground with elders of the nine families that make up the Joinkrama 4 to give honour to the ancestors who fought to bring the community into being.
Mr Boru said the festival is part of the existing culture to remember the efforts of the forefathers in fostering unity and development.
