The Abia State Government has placed order for no fewer than 500 Tri-cars to ameliorate transportation problem in the state.

Chief Israel Amanze, Abia Commissioner for Cooperatives and Poverty Reduction, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Umuahia.

Amanze said that the Tri-car was a new generation of Keke NAPEP and that the assembly plant would be cited in Umuahia from where it would get to other states.

He said that the introduction of the Tri-car was in partnership with Might Support Services Limited and that the company would be responsible for the servicing of the tri-cars.

“And they will equally teach our people how to do the servicing, thereby creating jobs for the youth,” the commissioner said.

He said that the relationship between the government and its foreign partners would bring about technological transfer, as many jobless youths would receive various trainings.

“Our foreign partners have expressed interest to train our people in the art of coupling and repairing the tri-cars.

“We hope that many youths will be interested in learning the trade,” Amanze said.

He said that each of the tri-cars would cost N600, 000, adding that it would help to ameliorate poverty and reduce the transportation problems experienced in the state.

Amanze also said that the government had initiated several poverty alleviation measures through the registered cooperative societies in the state.

“Several registered cooperative societies in the state will benefit from government packages. We have 7,800 cooperative societies in the state and we have been linking up with other ministries to help the indigent people,” he said.

Amanze said his ministry would provide accommodation to enable the National Directorate of Employment establish three skills acquisition centres in the three senatorial districts of the state.
