Traditionalists Rain Curses On Kidnappers, Others

For the second time in two days, traditionalists in Edo gathered to place a curse on kidnappers and criminals that are disturbing the peace in Benin and other parts of he state.

The Tide’s source reports that Saturday’s ceremony, like the one held on Thursday, took place at the ancient Urkpokpota Hall, King’s Square, Benin City.

Directive to traditional worshippers – Enigie, Igie-Ohen and Edionwere – to curse the criminals was given by the Benin Monarch, Oba Erediauwa.

The event was specifically for women as their male counterpart held one on Thursday.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Priest of Benin Kingdom, Nosakhare Isekhure, said the curse was the last resort.

Isekhure said security agencies had failed in their responsibilities, noting that it appeared they had no answers to crime.

The chief priest said the traditionalists had no other alternative than to invoke the spirits of the gods to deal with the criminals.

Mrs Josephine Omoregie, Secretary, Edo Market Association, said the women were in support of the curse, adding that they wanted peace to reign in the state.
