Six Thousand Supporters Cheer Eagles In S’Africa
No fewer than 6,000 members of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club will cheer the Super Eagles as they play their matches at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Dr Rafiu Ladipo, the President-General of the club, told newsmen in Johannesburg at the weekend that 200 of the members came from Nigeria.
Ladipo said other members resident in South Africa, Europe and America were in the host country to cheer the Eagles, who played their opening match against Argentina on Saturday, to victory.
He said the supporters would give the team the necessary backing for them to do well in the tournament.
“For us, we want to tell the Super Eagles that they can count on us; we will support them from the beginning to the end of the tournament.
“We will play our gongs, blow our trumpets and we will dance for them to come out victorious,” he said.
The club president urged Nigerians in South Africa to wear the national colours to identify with their country.
“I have always been telling Nigerians to believe in the colours of our country, the green, white and green.
“If anybody wants to show that he is a Nigerian, he must be able to show it through the colours he is wearing, especially at the World Cup.
“The World Cup is about how you portray your country. We must showcase the good culture of our country,” Ladipo said.
He advised Nigerians in South Africa for the World Cup to ensure that people from other parts of the globe saw them as Nigerians.
