Shekarau Proffers Attitude Change For Development
The Kano State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Shekarau, has stressed the need for change in attitude for peace and development to thrive in the country.
Shekarau made the call on Friday in Port Harcourt at the executive session of the 6th All Nigeria Editors Conference.
The governor said there was need for peace to make the nation to carry out development in all sectors.
“Peaceful co-existence is very important. We should give peace all the attention it deserves to ensure nation building.
“Peaceful co-existence has not been receiving the attention it deserves in a democratic setting,’’ he said.
Shekarau said that there was the need to educate the people to be responsible citizens.
“This can be achieved through attitudinal change through peace for development to thrive,’’ he said.
On the Niger Delta, the governor said the militants took their actions due to loss of confidence in the leadership.
“The majority of militants lost confidence in the entire leadership system in Nigeria. Militants believe that through dialogue or peaceful means, nobody will listen to them.
“We need to cultivate change in attitude in them through confidence building,’’ he said.
Shekarau said Kano had remained peaceful due to a societal re-orientation programme introduced by his administration in 2003.
“Kano is peaceful today due to change in attitude unlike in the past when the slightest issue made Kano to erupt. We have sensitised the people on the need to be peaceful and today, we are in peace in Kano State,’’ he said.
